Alpha 0.0.31 is a game update released on 24 September 2026. This patch adds the Sorcerer class with two bloodlines, magic equipment for every class, voiced NPCs and promises, with fixes to bartering and job rewards.

Magic & the Sorcerer

This patch introduces the magic system with a focus on Evocation spells, with more schools of magic, classes and other magic items coming in future patches.

The Sorcerer

  • Sorcerer: A new playable class with area attacks and crowd control, using Charisma to cast spells.
  • Choose the Solstice or Arcanist bloodline when you reach level 1 after the intro.

Solstice Bloodline

  • Solstice: Combines Fire and Frost, with spells that burn, chill and freeze enemies.
  • Elemental Confluence: Fire spells gain 25% of their damage as extra Frost damage, and Frost spells gain 25% as extra Fire damage.
  • Kindling Chill: Enemies affected by your Chilled or Brittle spread your Burning, Scorched and Living Bomb to nearby foes.
  • Thermal Shock: Frost spell hits consume your Burning to deal its remaining damage immediately, while Fire spell hits consume your Chilled or Brittle for extra Frost damage.

Arcanist Bloodline

  • Arcanist: Uses Arcane magic and telekinesis to attack enemies and lift, carry or hurl objects.
  • Telekinesis: Hurl a loose object in reach at a foe for Force damage plus the object's own, pull a loose item into your bag or move a fixture within reach. Objects up to large, and never anything a character holds or wears.
  • Infusion: Combine a spell with compatible Arcane or kinetic magic to deliver both in one cast at reduced damage.
  • Distant Touch: Deliver touch spells at range through Infusion.
  • Spell Conduit: Kinetic projectiles chain between enemies and release their infused spell on each hit.
  • Overchannel: Spend health and a bonus action to increase the damage of an Arcane or kinetic spell.

Casting Magic

  • Describe the magic you want to attempt, and the game matches it to a spell you know and can cast.
  • Firebolt can take the form of a flaming spear or another shape of flame, while keeping its damage, range and single target.
  • Browse, learn and cast spells from the Abilities tab, with a confirmation showing the targets, effects and cost before you cast.
  • Classes without spellcasting cannot learn spells on their own, but can cast spells granted by caster equipment.

Magic Equipment & Enchanters

  • Magic equipment: Added wands and staves and foci that grant spells.
  • Wield a wand in either hand, pair one with an offhand focus, or use a staff in both hands.
  • Companions cannot learn spells from the player spell list, but can cast spells granted by wands, staves and foci you give them.
  • Spellcasting companions also have unique spells outside the player spell list.
  • Enchanters: Several existing NPCs who use magic now sell magical goods as enchanters.
  • Craft and temper wands, staves and foci with Arcana, though crafted pieces do not grant spells.
  • Enchanting crafted caster weapons with custom spells will arrive in a future update.

See Affixes for equipment modifiers and their tiers.

Voiced NPCs

  • Voiced NPCs: NPCs and companions now speak in distinct voices.
  • Speech highlighting: Narration and dialogue are highlighted during playback by default.
  • NPC voices only: Added an option to play NPC voices without the Narrator.
  • Tap a character's portrait in chat to replay their dialogue.
  • Narration playback now supports 0.75x, 1x, 1.25x and 1.50x speeds.
  • Let us know if a voice does not fit a character by right-clicking the character and reporting it.

Lite Membership

Lite is a smaller monthly plan for players who want to try more of the game without committing to Premium or Max.

  • Lite membership: US$9.99 per month with 400 monthly credits, plus up to 100 more each month from free daily claims.
  • You can upgrade from Lite to Premium or Max at any time.

Promises & Paid Work

  • Promises: Job rewards and paid services now have cards showing who owes the payment.
  • Promises now show when they are kept, broken or released.

Shop Theft

  • Shop theft: Steal displayed goods with a Thieving check.
  • Getting caught raises the merchant's suspicion, increasing prices and eventually closing the shop to you.
  • Suspicion fades over days of game time.

General Improvements

  • Turns now process faster after improvements to how the Narrator generates responses.
  • The Abilities tab replaces the Quest tab, with quests coming in a future patch.
  • Arcane Scholarship: A new background with a starting focus that grants Minor Illusion when wielded.
  • Alchemical Research: A new background with alchemy supplies, a healing potion and an antidote.
  • Feat descriptions now state their effects, activation requirements and how they improve.
  • The companion pack now lets you give and take gold.
  • Crafting confirmations now show the required check before you roll.
  • Weapon cards now show base critical chance, and Knights can see each shield's block chance.

  • Dice rolls and skill gains now show the character experience they award.
  • Reduced sudden volume changes between music tracks, sound effects and narration.
  • Character creation drafts: Your unfinished character creation is now saved and can be resumed on the same device.

Balance Changes

  • The Crown of Black Ice's aura now reduces enemy evasion by 100 instead of 200 and increases damage taken by 15% instead of 20%.
  • The Held Sun replaces its 20% added Fire damage with Sunflare, giving spell hits a 40% chance and melee hits a 20% chance to deal 50% extra Fire damage and apply Scorched.
  • The Held Sun now grants the spell Fire of the Drowned Sun, usable twice per long rest to damage nearby enemies and blind those who fail their save.
  • Daybreak now grants Blunt damage and Sundown now grants Dark damage, replacing their attribute bonuses and penalties.
  • Sanction's attribute bonuses and penalties have been replaced with a Blinding strike.
  • Critical crafting successes now raise the finished item's level by one.
  • A failed crafting check consumes no materials, while a critical failure has a 50% chance to destroy one material.
  • Shops in high-level settlements now stock more equipment near your party's level.
  • Worn item effects that trigger on a hit now also trigger on spell hits.
  • Cooked meals now provide more nourishment at camp than raw food, and drinks contribute less than food.
  • Agreed trade prices can now reach 50% above fair value, up from 30%.
  • Asking your patron for an omen now requires an easier check than asking for divine intervention.
