Game time

Game time is the world's own clock, separate from real time. The stated time of day always holds, and the world moves through it whether or not you are watching. During action, time passes in rounds of six seconds, while outside of action it moves with what you do, so resting and traveling are how hours and days pass.

What runs on the clock

  • A short rest takes an hour to a few hours and a long rest roughly eight, with a fully restorative long rest available about once every 18 hours, as described on Rest.
  • Merchants restock every two days of game time, and the storefront counts down to it, as described on Merchants.
  • Damage over time, buffs, and debuffs count down in game time, as described on Status effects.
  • Day and night are real, and a few legendary bargains bite differently by daylight and dark, as described on Legendary gear.
  • A fallen character returns after a substantial wait of game time, as described on Revival.
  • Anything left lying where it fell decays with time, as described on Loot.
