Commissions

Commissions are work you hire a maker to do, covering a new craft from materials you supply, tempering or enchanting a piece you own, and bespoke work such as engraving or fitting. A shop's set-aside orders are a different and simpler thing, as described on Merchants.

How a commission runs

You agree the work with the maker in conversation, and the maker's own roll and skill decide the outcome, as described on Crafting. Their workshop counts as a proper workspace, so commissioned work usually rolls with advantage. Handing a maker your materials raises one confirmation that shows the exact item you will receive, and your materials stay in your bag until you confirm. A labor fee is charged on top of the materials, set by the game and shown on the confirmation. Handing a maker nothing but materials opens a commission rather than leaving the materials with them as a gift. You can wait for the work, or leave it with the maker and collect it when you next come through.

What a maker can make

A maker is capped by their own level and skill, and the lower of the two decides. Level unlocks uncommon work from level 1, rare from level 3, and epic from level 6, while skill allows uncommon at any rank, rare from 6, and epic from 12. The materials matter as much as the hands, because the blend and worth of what is consumed hold the result near what was put in, though a skilled maker can lift it a tier or two.

A legendary result asks for skill 12 together with a legendary material, and legendary crafting runs through its own recipes, as described on Legendary gear. Nothing made to order reaches Mythic.
