Alpha 0.0.17 is a game update released on 18 April 2026. This patch packs Valdaria with new content, adds followers, and reworks encounter pacing.

New Features

  • Encounter Pacing: Encounters now progress based on your actions. They resolve on their own once you've made enough progress, and fizzle out if you ignore them.
  • Character Presence: Background NPCs like wildlife and insects no longer compete for attention with NPCs you're actively talking to. Engage with one to bring them into focus.
  • Followers: NPCs can now follow you as companions outside of your formal party. Followers accompany you but won't actively participate in combat.
  • NPC Details: NPCs now display their level and race in the game interface. Larger NPCs and creatures now have bigger icons on the map.

Deeper into Valdaria

  • Valdaria is now much denser with content. Most existing locations have been improved, and roughly twice as many places are available to explore.
  • Totem Village got a major content pass with new NPCs, expanded areas, and more things to do.
  • New animals, creatures, and monsters have been added. There are more hidden areas and new encounters to find off the beaten path.
  • Some existing NPC images have been updated to better reflect their personality and type. Creatures now have more image variety and you should see fewer duplicates.

Note:

  • Map coordinates have shifted as part of this update. If your existing character is stuck, let us know and we will sort it out. Starting a new character will give you the cleanest experience, but existing characters will find plenty of new content to explore.
  • Some NPCs you met before this update may still be missing images. We'll address this in a future patch.

Interface

  • A new animated glow effect now appears around the chat area while the Narrator is responding.
  • New animated loading words and constellation animation now play while waiting for the Narrator.
  • Right-click an NPC portrait in your current location to open them in the Compendium or invite them to your party.
  • Map terrain colors have been reworked to be more distinct.

General Improvements

  • NPCs now better recall past encounters and relationship history when you meet them again.
  • Hostile NPCs are less likely to escalate unprovoked, especially lawful ones, and their hostility can no longer spiral indefinitely.
  • Additional performance improvements across the app.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed a bug where the loading screen would not appear when entering the game.
  • Fixed a bug where the Narrator would not recognize NPCs mentioned by name.
  • Fixed a bug where nearby NPCs would get involved in your actions just because they are close by.
  • Fixed a bug where the Narrator could confuse who was speaking or being targeted during combat/dialogue.
  • Fixed a bug where the Narrator would use items or abilities your character doesn't have.
  • Fixed a bug where status effects could be applied to the wrong character.
  • Fixed a bug where story progress could be lost between scenes.
  • Fixed a bug where NPCs would repeat the same lines of dialogue across a conversation.
  • Fixed a bug where your character would not move on the map after traveling to a new location.
  • Fixed a bug where beasts, insects, and other non-verbal creatures would speak when they shouldn't be able to.
  • Fixed a bug where companions traveling with you could be split across separate parties.
  • Fixed a bug where nearby NPCs and surroundings could fail to refresh after you moved.
  • Fixed a bug where the loading screen could flicker when entering the game.

This update to Valdaria sets us up for what's coming next: a full quests system.

Some of these improvements have rolled out gradually through hotfixes in the past few weeks.
